We're going to France!
I can't believe 3 weeks from today we’ll be arriving in France and staying for a month. Ben and I have never traveled out of the country together, our kids have never been out of the country at all, and none of us have ever done a trip longer than a week. (At least as adults. We both did longer trips as teenagers and college students.) So needless to say, this is a first for us.
People always want to know how this arrangement came to be so let me explain. When I was in high school I was best friends with this guy. Said guy and I are no longer in touch, but his brother and I were somehow connected on Facebook. His brother lives in France with his wife and 3 children. Last summer, he posted on Facebook asking if any families in Greenville would be interested in house swapping for the summer so that they could bring their kids to visit the grandparents in Greenville and practice English. We responded and now here we are a year later, preparing for the swap.
The basics of our trip:
We will fly into Paris and spend 3 nights there. Then we will take a train from Paris to Montpellier, in southern France, where the house is. We will be in Montpellier for two weeks and Ben will be working during that time. After two weeks, we are going to Villefranche-sur-Mer right next to Nice on the French Riviera, and we will be there for a week. That is our "beach week" which actually is cheaper than going to the beach in SC or NC for a week, wouldn't you know. Then we will go back to Montpellier for a few days, before heading back to Paris (Disneyland) for the last few days of the trip. Finally we will take a shuttle from Disneyland back to the airport and fly home!
These next 3 weeks we have quite a lot to do to finish prepping our house for the people who will be staying here. Maybe I will do another post before we leave about what we packed and a few more details of the swap. Au revoir for now!
